Who We Are:
The Northwest New Jersey Peace Fellowship is a grassroots organization of
concerned citizens, primarily residents of Sussex County, NJ, committed
to a culture of peace, justice and nonviolence. It was established in
September 2002 out of grave concern with the Bush Administration plans to
wage a unilateral, preemptive military attack against Iraq. We hold a
wide range of convictions about peace. Some of us oppose war under all
circumstances; some of us do not. We welcome discussion and interaction
on complex topics.
We are nonpartisan. We do not endorse any candidate or political party;
however, we educate on candidate and party positions on issues that are
important to our organization.
We are nonsectarian. While we may sponsor events at local religious
institutions, our organization is not affiliated with, nor supports any
religious denomination.
What We
Believe:
As the world's only superpower, America has an obligation to lead by
cooperating with other nations, respecting international law, supporting
human rights, and reducing the threat of nuclear weapons.
Disputes among nations should be resolved by peaceful means and through
the United Nations. No nation should impose its vision of the world order
on the rest of the world.
Civil liberties as defined in the Bill of Rights should not be
compromised in the name of security.
Our Mission:
- To promote peacemaking at the grassroots level.
- To educate on war and peace, nonviolence and justice issues.
- To encourage participation in activities of state and national peace organizations.
- To provide opportunities for local peace activists to meet and support each other.
Our Activities:
- We hold community educational forums to stimulate thinking and discussion.
- We provide a means for members to exchange information on issues of peace and justice online.
- We hold peace vigils (currently at the Newton Square each Friday, 6PM - 7PM).
- We participate in antiwar demonstrations in Washington, DC, New York City, and Newark.
- We are affiliated with NJ Peace Action and we work closely with other peace groups.
- We advocate on peace and justice issues, including contacting policy makers.
We invite you to join us in a common effort to prevent war and work for
peace, justice and non-violence. As Margaret Mead said: "Never
doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed Citizens can change the
world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
